NCFE level 1 Certificate in Business and Enterprise

Overview

This qualification is designed for pupils who want an introduction to business and enterprise that includes a vocational and hands-on element. It has been developed to enthuse and inspire pupils about a career in business and enterprise. The qualification will appeal to pupils who wish to either set up their own business, move into employment or progress to further study.

How will I be assessed

Unit 01 Introduction to business and enterprise

Unit 02 Marketing for business and enterprise

Unit 03 Finance for business and enterprise

Unit 04 Plan, outline and take part in a business or enterprise project

This course is 100% coursework based which consists of an internally assessed portfolio of evidence. Pupils must achieve a minimum of a Pass in all assessment criteria within all 4 units in order to pass the unit as a whole.

The qualification is graded at Level 1 Pass/Merit/Distinction/Distinction* (equivalent to GCSE grades 3–1)

What will I learn

Introduction to business and enterprise – This unit aims to give pupils an introduction to business and enterprise.

Marketing for business and enterprise - This unit aims to give pupils an insight into marketing for business and enterprises. It includes aspects of marketing, methods of market research and the marketing mix.

Finance for business and enterprise - This unit aims to provide pupils with a basic knowledge of finance for a business or enterprise. It includes funding, cash flow, budgets and tax.

Plan, outline and take part in a business or enterprise project - This unit outlines a project plan and gives pupils the opportunity to take part in a project. The pupil will then go on to review their own contribution and the overall success of the project.

  • Team working – the qualification gives pupils the opportunity to work with others either on small tasks or during the final project task
  • Communication skills
  • Presentation skills – pupils will learn to present their work to those around them in a suitable way and will also learn the most appropriate way of communicating as an entrepreneur or business person
  • Use initiative – pupils will learn what initiative is and why it is  important for an entrepreneur or business person
  • Work independently – pupils will understand how to work independently on specific tasks.

Course

NCFE level 1/2 Technical Award in Business and Enterprise

Overview

This qualification is designed for pupils who want an introduction to business and enterprise that includes a vocational and project-based element. The qualification will appeal to pupils who wish to pursue a career in the business and enterprise sector or progress to further study.

How will I be assessed

Unit 1: Externally assessed unit (40% weighing). Written examination.  80 marks, 1 hour 30 minutes. The paper consists of a mixture of multiple-choice, short-answer and extended-response questions. The examination windows are expected in March and November. Pupils will have one opportunity to re-sit.

Unit 2: Internally assessed (60% weighing). Synoptic project. The completion time for the synoptic project is 21 hours of supervised time. The synoptic project will assess the pupil’s ability to effectively draw together their knowledge, understanding and skills from across the whole vocational area. Pupils will have one opportunity to resubmit.  

The qualification is graded at Level 1 Pass/Merit/Distinction/Distinction* and Level 2 Pass/Merit/Distinction/Distinction* (equivalent to GCSE grades 8.5–1)
